Acting outside of LA and attending the Austin Film Festival, with Joshua Koopman

The Joshua “Koop” Koooman shares his experience building an acting resume outside of LA, making the move to Hollywood, studying acting at UCLA Film School and what it’s like to attend the Austin Film Festival (AFF).

The Koop started acting in theater and moved into the world of commercials, both outside of LA. He felt this was a great way to build up his resume and land roles that mattered but may have been way more competitive in LA.

And he doesn’t only act! The first film he co-produced won an award for feature length comedy at the AFF (titled The Golden Scallop – with the Game of Thrones actor who played Lord Commander Mormont).

And in 2015, the Koop volunteered at the AFF, which he says is a great way to be part of the festival. Listen to the episode for more of the reasoning behind this, how to get the most out of such festivals, and his thoughts on how to stand out as an actor.
